In the Research Ignited - AI Medicine Lab, high school students delve into the practical application of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Participants train real medical AI models and develop AI research crews, gaining hands-on experience with tools used in healthcare research. A core focus of the lab is to critically examine the limitations and ethical considerations of medical AI, understanding where these models can fail and how to use them responsibly. Students will build a working AI Medical Research dashboard, create a one-page Health Research Brief for their portfolio, and earn a Research Ignited Level 2 certificate. The program emphasizes building AI tools as assistants for research, not as substitutes for medical professionals, and uses public, built-in teaching datasets, never real patient data.
Students engage in live online sessions where they learn to train AI models on medical datasets, build AI research crews, and critically analyze the results for bias, errors, and ethical implications.
