Techlab Camp provides a unique opportunity for youth to engage with advanced technology and software often unavailable in traditional classrooms, fostering a passion for creation and learning in STEAM fields.
Techlab Camp offers students in grades 3-9 a hands-on exploration of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) in a fun and informal environment. Campers engage with cutting-edge tools such as DSLR cameras, 3D printers, robotics kits, and hydrology display boards. They learn to use software like Labview, Tinkercad, Photoshop, and iMovie. Activities are designed to inspire creativity and critical thinking, encouraging students to ask questions and use their imagination to solve challenges. The curriculum covers topics like toy design, robotics, programming in languages such as Scratch, Blockly, C++, Java, or Python, digital media, movie making, geology, and environmental science. Older campers (grades 6-9) can choose two specialized classes, while younger campers (grades 3-5) rotate through four learning areas. The camp aims to spark interest in tech and art fields and provides opportunities for Scouts to work towards advancements and merit badges.
A typical day begins with check-in and a welcoming activity at 9:00 AM, followed by two class sessions, a snack break, lunch, recess, and two more class sessions, concluding with a closing activity and parent pick-up at 3:30 PM.
The ideal student is any youth in grades 3-9 interested in hands-on exploration of STEAM concepts, regardless of prior experience.
