About this camp

The Research Ignited - AI Robotics & Autonomous Drone Lab is a live, online, hands-on program for middle and high school students (grades 6-12) where they build and program real robots and autonomous drones using Python. Students explore foundational concepts in robotics, sensors, electronics, computer vision, and AI-assisted decision-making. The program emphasizes real engineering by having students write Python code, wire sensors, and debug hardware, rather than using drag-and-drop blocks. Participants will build three real projects: an autonomous obstacle avoider, a smart vision sorting bot using computer vision (OpenCV), and an AI-inspired drone challenge. Students get to keep the professional robotics kit, which includes a SunFounder PiCar-X AI robot car with Raspberry Pi and a CoDrone EDU, allowing them to continue building and experimenting after the course. The program aims to equip students with a portfolio of projects and a certificate of completion, along with a strong foundation in Python, AI, and robotics.

What a typical day looks like

Each 2-hour live session includes an interactive lecture introducing an AI/ML concept, followed by a live coding walkthrough where the instructor demonstrates applying the concept with real datasets, and concludes with students working on a guided hands-on project with instructor support.

Best suited for

This program is ideal for middle and high school students (grades 6-12) curious about AI, robotics, and drones, who enjoy hands-on projects and want to learn real Python coding with no prior experience required.
