About this camp

The NASA Astro Innovators Camp inspires children to think and act like NASA innovators through hands-on activities and real-world engineering challenges. Campers will engage in designing mission patches and training like astronauts. A core focus is on solving engineering problems using NASA spinoff technology, drawing inspiration from current missions such as Artemis, which aims to land the first woman and next man on the moon. Activities include designing and constructing planetary pasta rovers, creating landing pods, and building air-powered rockets to hit distant targets. Campers will also develop and test heat shields for spacecraft entering Mars' atmosphere, learn about robotic arms like the Canadarm2, and design cold fuel storage and transfer systems. The program encourages creative thinking through strategies like SCAMPER to redesign and prototype improved technologies, and campers will build shock-absorbing systems for lunar landers. Throughout the week, children will enhance their science communication skills by creating storyboards and presentations to share their spinoff projects.
